Challenges We Faced

Some challenges that we faced in the process of completing our CAS Project were booking a date that was compatible to all of our schedules. Having a very busy supervisor, Mr. Rabinowitz, created an even larger problem in regards to this because there were many dates that he could not stay after school to work with us. After finding a date we all agreed on we had to speak to Ms. Johnson which was another challenge in itself. Ms. Johnson also runs on a very tight schedule which made organizing a conversation with her difficult. When we finally did and found a date that she approved of we had to see Peter and it turned out that CAS Night was occuring on the date we planned. We had not checked the schools calendar which was a mistake and caused conflict in the timing of our project. A challenge that presented itself towards the beginning of this process was being able to find an organization to work with that matched/ supported our idea of Trivia Night. We decided to revolve it around education and so we attempted to find a place that would provide education programs and a local spot that did this was the YMCA. We tried to find someone that worked at the YMCA with the Y-tutoring program but there was nobody involved directly so we contacted the Youth and Family Director of the LIC branch of the YMCA and she decided to work with us. She was readily willing to accept our idea of Trivia Night, support us through the process and even said she wanted to an article on us. Our main issue however was waiting too long to plan and just overall procrastination. We had an original plan of dates and tasks we needed completed by certain times, but often schoolwork and just our everyday tasks or responsibilities would get in the way. The most important thing we learned is to prioritize and to get things done on time.
Working collaboratively is important because you have people to encourage you along the way and make sure you are doing your work and staying on task. You are also forced to do things on time because you have four other people relying on you. Working together is also very beneficial because the people you are working with form a sort of support system for you to do work. You can also divide tasks amongst each other in order to make the creation of the overall project a lot easier and a lot less time consuming for each person. Every group member also has different strengths that they bring to the table. This all together forms an experience where you have everybody completing different tasks and using their different experiences in order to create the most functional and efficient environment possible.
